Aye - 'tis very creepy...
I've read enough Isaac Asimov to know that people ended up preferring the robots that looked
less life-like because they could tell the difference easily and categorize them as "robots" unconsciously.
Personally, I think they will always have problems otherwise, since there is so much information registered by the subconscious when interacting with someone - most of that wouldn't exist in an android (unless it was incredibly advanced).
I think being around a too-life-like version might well bring up the overwhelming primeval instinct to smash it to bits in some people.
