Myth II V 1.6 Build 290

Postby vinylrake » Thu Jun 05, 2008 6:49 am

fyi: I know we are (or most of us) on version 1.6 of Myth II, but I hadn't paid any attention to the specific build# in months. Last night I was getting OOS errors trying to play a coop map with some other players and they said it was because I didn't have the latest build of M2.

So in case anyone else might be out of date, the latest official release version Myth II is Version 1.6 Build 290.

It's at the Tain (which has been MIA all week) but also at udogs:

If you aren't sure what version you have, the main menu tells you at the top left corner. And if you are online, just type ".version".

Yeah - I forgot to mention that.

I was using build 283 (I think) and never knew other people were using a more recent version. It would be a lot simpler if the zip file names of the MythII updates had the build# in them. As it is you have download a file, unzip it, and put it into your Myth II folder and start up Myth to see what build it is. I am sure they name the versions the same thing (Myth II version 1.6) for ease of posting updates and keeping links working across build#s, but it's unncessarily complex for the average person who actually uses the product (myth) to find out the build#.

When the final was announced, long ago, was the time to download the final version. :p Maybe you should read the guide I'm making. ;)

So many people are still on 1.5.1 too.....

Y'know they said they'd stop working on Myth II at 1.5. Every other patch was gonna be purely to keep it working on modern computer systems. While Project Magma has slowed down big time (nothing gets released anymore except new Mazz plugs though we'll see SF2 eventually I would hope) they do keep adding to map-making in patches. 1.7 is on the way...........

The plans for a TFL update got scrapped though. I'd quite like a "definitive" TFL so it could be laid to rest. 1.4 was a horrible patch Blades put together that only existed to damage MariusNet, and 1.5 was largely a compatibility update that freed up the game to run on MariusNet (unlike Patch 1.4 which insisted on PlayMyth).

Well, there has never been an update that only serves for mapmaking features. Even for 1.7, it started because "competitive" players began to complain. (Or so it appears.) The only reason they complained is because they thought Magma created some bugs, it was later determined that those bugs were there since Bungie. Each update has had OOS and crash fixes. I'm sure there are still 1.5.1 users, but for the most part I don't seem to see them. You can see a lot of players hosting are running 1.6. The problem is that some 1.6 users have beta 1.6 versions. And they don't notice until they OOS or crash with other players with the latest 1.6 (build 290) or with 1.5.1 users.

There was one thing introduced by Magma along the way that did work contrary to 1.3, which was brought to the forefront during/after MWC '07. I believe Iron fixed this last Fall after tracking it down and realizing it was introduced by Magma. In fact, he became active again because of it. I for one am happy it is squashed.

I believe this one thing is the most important piece that competitive players didn't like (and it was something even I noticed had changed whereby melee units were hyper-agressive and difficult to control).

I'm on the development team for 1.7, though due to work/life I haven't had a chance to do any actual coding yet (just some contributions to discussions so far). I have a small list of things in my corner to work on and everything I've seen on the master "to do" list are improvements imo. AFAIK the one thing mentioned above is the only gameplay change.

There are other gameplay fixes they wish to do. For example, there was a fix for healer units so they don't turn before healing. But it was removed because it caused another bug... it made reflexive attacks have no recovery time. I didn't mean that magma never created bugs, but that the one that sparked the debate was not. (just fyi)

Do you want oz to realease SF2 sooner ?
Download the public beta on the tain [once it's back up ]
Get friends to download it
Test it..
Send feedback/all bugs/whatever you feel like saying to ozone [hotline ? magma forum pm ? email...don't know..whatever ]

I'm serious. Really.
He may have just been blowing steam off, but he's [or he was a few weeks ago..he hasn't been on much recently ] rather ..I don't know how to say it. But basically he was hoping for more bug reports and people testing.

Seriously just give him some bugs or feedback. Get some people that don't log onto HL 3+ days a week to msg him about it. If he sees more interest outside of the core group of people he knows, he may be more inclined to release it.

Unless he's working on *another* smeg map, the plug-in seems pretty complete.

Sorry for the off-topic, but I don't think it's really going to hurt the original post.. the original point was made and finished. Thanks.

I was never available when bug tests happened (most testers were not in Europe, nor were they kids with parents deciding what time they go to bed!). I have played it on my own though...I have discussed it with Oz a fair bit. I'll try and get something done though.

Why isn't it out if it's done?
