Marathon Anywhere - help wanted

Postby Baak » Mon Mar 10, 2008 4:38 pm

Since someone has requested a Marathon Anywhere plugin again, and I am fully capable of cranking one out, I've posted a "help wanted" thread in the Magma Forums to get the essential feedback I need to get this baby done.

If you're interested in helping out, please reply to that thread which contains the checklist of what I need:

http://projectmagma.net/forum/viewtopic ... 2667#32667

Thanks! :)

Heh - it's not even 24 hours yet but just interesting to me that I haven't received one comment on this between Mariusnet, Magma, and here, and it's had 40 reads between the three sites.

Will wait to see how many comments happen by the weekend.

I get the impression that everyone SAYS they like Marathon and marathon units and would claim they want a Marathon unitset, but it's really only Frum and a couple of other people who play it often enough to know the units and how they might correspond to regular myth. Besides, other than OoH how many games on mariusnet do you see that use non-standard units? OK, other than Mazz or WWII.

I've only played the "Somewhere in the Heavens" tagset we have in the BP, and have dabbled with the Marathon games via Aleph One (for the PC). I'm certainly no expert. I really prefer Unreal Tournament (the GOTY/99 edition is what I still play and it's super fun) as Marathon seems to make me motion sick. :p

I just figured if there were people actively working on it (I saw some Marathon 1 and Marathon Red stuff, but the newest post is May 2007...) they might speak up. We'll just have to see what happens by the weekend...

Yeah, I think I'll just leave it up to people to respond or not. If there is no response, then it's an easy "nope". I certainly won't hold my breath for it.

Interesting the Anywhere plugins pulled in the 200 to 250 range (with a couple of updates) so my guess is 100 to 120 people grabbed 'em. But that also goes back into the PlayMyth days... I set the Anywhere Multi Pak at the highest of the Anywhere plugins (Wild West with 256) so as of now they have had a whopping 21 downloads, 10 or 12 of which are OoH'ers...

Not sure if it's the time of year or what (mb have to wait for Summer) - or if people are really gone for good more or less - but it sure seems quiet on both the Mariusnet and Magma forums. Kinda spooky. Just a handful of people talking about the same things over and over.

I've posted the Anywhere Multi Pak on The Tain, so we'll see if maybe it doesn't pick up over the next month or so.

It'd be cool (mb) to have an OoH Tourney of sorts this Summer using some of our fun stuff. No idea if anyone would show up, but might be fun.

I think ooga booga would probably be interested in this tagset. If you are editing the units at all, he could give you an idea of what they should be like, or even do it for you. If I recall, he said they were unbalanced or something.

All I know is the SitH tagset, and I remember that there was something else from way back. Not sure what it was. Really the only time I play the Marathon ones -- though that's the same with just about all of our stuff -- is with OoH, so I don't really feel I'm any more of an expert to decide what unit is replaced by what. We could play a couple games, that'd tell us.

I don't really like the map(s?) that the tagset comes with, if I recall, but the units definitely have some merits.

As for activity, the Winter Series forum sucked the life out of Mariusnet's forums. It's still very active over there. Mariusnet's forums got the boost when that other place died, but the activity'll prolly be at a lower hum now.

the forums are a but quieter than usual lately, but I've also noticed a steady trickle of new people or old people returning looking for help in get ting the latest version of Myth II or connecting to mariusnet, etc.

Heh - just got a reply on the Magma forums that was nicely detailed.

It's for the ISOYG tagset, which I haven't tried yet.

Anyone have a good comparison of ISOYG versus the SitH one we've played?

ISOYG sort of sounds familiar. What does it stand for?

NM, I read the reply (I'll Sph't on Your Grave)

ISoYG is on Udogs in files/uploads/myth-related/Myth 2 Maps uploads
( http://hl.udogs.net/files/Uploads/--MYT ... 20Uploads/ )
(yikes!)
