Playmyth.net EMERGENCY!

Talk about Myth, other games and anything else (within the rules)

That's an awesome Assassin story, vr :) Don't worry--I'll only keep ONE unit next time we're team mates! ;)

I used to maintain Emphood on Deadman's Float Assassin games and Leagues from Nowhere bacon. It was awesome.

Back in tfl days I H00red it up on RIP bacon to maintain Emp status.

But I don't give a damn about rank anymore, it's silly, just plain silly. You have to be too serious about the game (it's just a game!), as well as taking yourself too seriously, plus get involved with a bunch of a-holes--and in this latter stage of Myth it seems that we have distilled to community down to a much higher percentage of the a-holes than before. I say that because they are much more noticeable now than they were when every room used to be full.

Heh Frum that would be funny if it was *you* I beat back in the day. I don't think it was though, unless you were a lot ruder and were a pretty sore loser "back in the day".

Still, nice badges you accumulated. Who knew we had an ex-rank-h00r in our midst. We really need to do better screening.

Yeah, like TS and VR I had my stretch of ranked games back in the days of bungie.net and also the early days of PlayMyth. Personally I never liked it as much as unranked because so many people took it all so seriously and people would drop all the time when they were losing. There were fun games, but it was like 20-25% of the time.

I remember doing really well in a game that would have given me some serious points and the host dropped because he was losing. That kind of thing is so lame and generally sums it up for my opinion of ranked.

I have no way of knowing this but my guess is a high percentage of the true wankers are in those teenage angst years. All tied in with tribal stuff and the perception of power within a given tribe. ;)

We (OoH) gradually learned over time that in general we had a helluva lot more fun in our private games and would invite people to join us selectively to add to the mix. That formula has worked very well for us.

I think it would be good if there were another solid server out there. I dunno if Mariusnet has improved since our experience before - we sure had a hard time with logistics and bad connections in general. That was a few years ago now though. The nice thing to me about PlayMyth is we can look around, chat with others, play some standard stuff, and then go back to our private game whenever we like.

If I had a solid connection here I'd run our own private invitation-only server if the need ever arose. My guess is when PlayMyth finally does shut down (I don't think this will happen for a couple years yet), Mariusnet and/or something from Project Magma will fill in the gap and whoever is left who still really wants to play will have a place to play. I mean, those guys are some of the die-hard fans from the Myth TFL days and they still play that! :)

I used to play some ranked games sometimes too, but really not very often. before i started playing with you guys i was an occasional myth player. i was always kinda on and off. and i really vastly prefered playing mainly ffa games. i used to never be much of a team player at all. i just didn't like it, cuz i knew i'd screw up, and piss off my team mate(s) if i did, so i'd actually avoid team games. and keep just to ffa's. and its kinda hard to boost your rank playing just ffa's cuz the odds are a little more against you, highest rank i've ever attained was a sheild and double axes. i never made it to a crown. i think its pretty obvious in my playing style how much better i am at playing ffa games than team games. but my team skills have definately been improving,

Clem has a PMA account, he's just NEVER EVER used it.

PlayMyth.net is not gonna close at the rate of knots at which Blades et al ban people, it'll just be a lot quieter. The voice of the good people is beggining to drown out the bad people.

If everyone bad gets removed, I can guarantee no one in NFD, TFS, OOH, IX, //Ç// or from BME will get removed. No PMAs either. That's enough to keep going at least.

It seems Blade has made this same threat several times, only to keep the server running.

Frankly, people do need to learn how to respect each other. It seems the number of idiot gamers has spread like a virus - they just pollute some games very quickly.

Assuming the server is shut down, it might not be a horrible thing, especially for OoH. Not only is there Marius.net but you guys will be able to have your TCP/IP games.

In the end, it might not be such a bad thing moving on...
