New "theory of everything"

Interesting article about a new "theory of everything". Unlike string theory it;s a lot simpler (it only needs one dimension of time and 3 of space - ouch now my brain is hurting) - and it might actually be testable.
While the article is interesting the mathematical shape at the root of the theory is what made my head explode - It's called 'E8' - and is 'a complex, eight-dimensional mathematical pattern with 248 points first found in 1887, but only fully understood by mathematicians this year...E8 encapsulates the symmetries of a geometric object that is 57-dimensional and is itself 248-dimensional.'
