Pyro Wrote:My plugin has like 14 downloads. Two reviews... Zeph's review is wrong! You can disable the ambient wights only if you are on timid. I've been playing a lot of TES4: Oblivion lately so I haven't made that plugin final.
This is precisely why when a couple of us at the OoH were debating creating our own archive, we were discussing the option of not having reviews (or ratings) - or of having the ability for the author to post comments on the reviews themselves.
That was one thing that used to tick me off big-time about The Mill: people were constantly writing reviews - and giving ratings - based on stuff that made no sense whatsoever. Especially infuriating (to me anyway) were people that did this
without ever using the plugin! It was blatantly obvious they were posting without any real knowledge. Very discouraging imo when it takes so much work to make a plugin in the first place. It was just too easy to write reviews and most people aren't mature enough to do it properly.
We were looking into options such as: Reviewers had to have a track record of building plugins themselves as well as playing the game - i.e. they have to be experienced. Reviews could have comments from the author as well as rebuttals from other reviewers. The problem with all of this is the potential for people's b.s. to taint an otherwise worthy plugin. Personally I prefer *no* reviews or ratings. People will download it if they want to play it and won't if they don't - simple.
All of this nonsense is one of the reasons I decided long ago to have the OoH plugins available on the OoH site
only. Other reasons include: having one place to download them so that when updates are available people aren't still downloading old versions from other sites; building an accurate counter for downloads; presenting and organizing them exactly the way I want; etc.
