Downtime may mean site Improvements

Our host is doing some site-wide upgrading between now and Oct 5th, which is likely to result in sporadic downtime (it shouldn't be much, but one never knows).

Hopefully this will mean improvements afterwards, as they are upgrading not only the email systems but also the db systems, which I believe have been the source of the overall slowness we've been experiencing now and then (with occasional double-posts in the forums and/or white screens, etc.).

This, combined with my addition of some spam bot blocking code, should mean things will be much smoother by the second week of October.

I've also noticed a trickling of downloads on the OoH Downloads page which is good news - appears this is working properly again for most people. :)

I had been noticing before the recent email server update that one of the spam-assassin type processes was sucking up massive CPU time.

After the update it appears the forums/site is running much faster once again and at least my experience so far is like the good ol' days when things were running smooth as silk.

Will just have to keep an eye on things, but I for one am pleased so far. :)

Let me know if things seem to be running better/worse for you if you happen to notice a significant difference either way.

Also I'm pleased to announce that my spam bot thwarting tactic has kept the spam bots from auto-registering here for six days so far! This is in contrast to an average of 1-2 per day. SWEET! :D
