I know i come off sounding very anal-retentive but what the hell do you mean by "branching beyond a LITERAL screenshot"? A screenshot is a picture of a screen, e.g. a SCREEN snapSHOT - that's why it's called what it is.
Now if you really meant you wanted a conceptual/fake/simulated screenshot competition (e.g. "create some kind of myth related artwork that looks like a screenshot") that's all well and good, but that's NOT remotely what you started off saying, and is not what any reasonably sane person would expect when you say the word 'screenshot'.
To recap and paraphrase your evolving point of view on the screenshot competition:
"The screenshot contest kind of sucked"
"The screenshot contest would have been better if it had been open to commonly (universally) used 3rd party maps and plugins"
"The screenshot contest shouldn't have really been a screenshot contest at all, it really should have been a free-form myth art contest to create fake screenshots".
What you are saying here reinforces my opinion that I said in my last post - that the reason you didn't like the contest wasn't because there was something done wrong, or because there was something that you think could have been done better, you just didn't like the basic premise of the competition - you think a completely different kind of art competition would be more fun and you just don't like the idea of a 'literal' screenshot contest at all.
