Politics anyone?

Postby vinylrake » Tue Oct 31, 2006 12:35 pm

I love politics. Ok, not really but I do love this guy in RI who is running for Lt. Governor. His name is Robert Healey and he is running based on a single issue - that the Lt. Governer's position is unnecessary and a waste of taxpayer money (salary plus budget for the LtG's office is about 1 million dollars/year). So, he said if he is elected he won't take a salary OR staff the office or buy any supplies, thus saving the residents of the state 1 million dollars/year. How inspired is that? (very) He also asks that anyone who supports him donate to local charities instead of his political campaign.

I saw an article about him in the newspaper this morning which reminded me about him and they mentioned his new bumperstickers which say "Lieutenant Governor? Lieutenant Governor? We don't need no stinkin' Lieutenant Governor!".

needless to say, I will be voting for this guy.

ps. I think he calls himself an independant these days, but when back when he ran for governor his previous political party was called "The Cool Moose Party".

pps. He announced his candidacy back in March from a beach in Uruguay.

i read some of the stuff, the guy does make a lot of really good points, he doesn't seem to be a total crackpot by any means, even though he looks like a hippie, but i think i'd vote for him too,

Yeah, that was my impression too. I am sure lots of people won't get past his hippie/1969-era-John-Lennon look, but the guy is a lot more direct and makes more sense than 98% of 'normal' politicians.

'normal' polititians are generally corrupt scum who mislead good intenetions and fuel bad intention for their own personal gain. Left, Right, Middle, Red, Blue, Democan or Repulicrat blah blah, they market differently but govern the same. Yeah, I'm a little cynical. But not hopelessly cynical - I do believe there are plenty of good people in the world, just not in politics.

This guy is not the usual polititian. He would get my vote. Sadly, the weight of the political machine seems to eventually break mavericks like him...I hope he wins and has a lasting positive impact.

So sick of the political phone calls and junk mail electronic and traditional. I was hoping being a registered Independent would reduce this flow of crap, but nyet - at least in Kalifornia.

My daughter told me today "I got a phone call from Bill Clinton this afternoon. (pause) Of course it was a recording but still it was a little wierd to pick up the phone and say hello and hear that voice saying 'Hi this is Bill Clinton...".

Arnold left a message on my machine the last special election. It really was surprising to hear a message from mom, a buddy then "This is the Govenor of Cal-i-fornia..." That was kinda funny actually.

You guys have listed numbers? Holy cow - getting ads on my telephone would be enough to make me change my number - I mean... pretty soon someone will have ads on every frickin' sheet of toilet paper... ;)

I saw a poll several months back that showed most of the world's population is fed up with politicians and politics. I think the overall satisfaction level was roughly 20%. Of course, most of the world's population holds 0.1% of the real power, but I digress...

I believe it's a wonderful combination of money, power, and the human ego that lies at the root of the problem.

I'm holding out for the day when human evolution takes a quantum leap forward, we all wake up instantly using 100% of our brain, and all are intimately connected with everything and each other yet retain complete individuality. I imagine things would change a bit at that point.

Mind you, I didn't say I was holding my breath or anything... ;)
